At the beginning of 1915, 3^rd Division were holding a section of the line south of Ypres. 4^th Royal Fusiliers, 9 Brigade, when not in the line were in billets in Locre (Loker). On 24^th January they moved back into the front line for a 4 day tour. The battalion diary records this period as being “quiet” despite the fact that nine men were killed during this time. Sniper activity resulted in several casualties on 26^th January, whilst German action on 27^th January in celebration of the Kaiser’s birthday resulted in “a good many casualties”.
